  12. Take note of the minimum system requirements and follow the installation instructions.

  14.                    RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  17. - Pentium CPU 
  18. - Windows 95, 98 or NT 
  19. - 32 MB RAM 
  20. - 100 MB free hard disk space 
  21. - 800 x 600 monitor resolution 
  22. - 16 bit high-color 
  23. - 12X CD-ROM drive (recommended) or DVD-ROM drive 
  24. - 28.8K modem to connect to the Versabook eBookstore and other online components.

  28. á            INSTALLATION
  29. ======================================================================
  30. To install your Versabook: 
  31.  1.  Exit all applications. 
  32.  2.  Place the disk in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. The Autorun window opens.
  33.  
  34.     Note:  If Autorun does not begin, follow these instructions: 
  35.      1. Double-click your desktop's My Computer icon. 
  36.      2. Double-click the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM icon. 
  37.      3. Double-click "Autorun.exe". This should bring up the Autorun menu. 
  38.      4. Follow the Installation instructions. 
  39.    
  40.  3.  In the Autorun window, click Install. This part of the installation may take a few minutes. 
  41.  4.  Versabook checks to see if Internet Explorer version 4.0 SP1 is installed on your computer.
  42.  If an earlier version than Internet Explorer 4.0 SP1 is installed, you will be prompted to install
  43.  Internet Explorer 5. 
  44.  5.  Click Yes.  The program installs it and the Welcome window appears. 
  45.  6.  In the Welcome window, click Next. The Software License Agreement appears. 
  46.  7.  Read the Software License Agreement, and then click Yes. The Choose Destination Location
  47.  Window appears. 
  48.     Setup chooses a destination and folder for the installation. 
  49.      Note: To install in a different folder: 
  50.     1. Click Browse. 
  51.     2. Choose path and drive. 
  52.     3. Click OK. 
  53.     4. Click Next. The Book Installation Options dialog box opens. 
  54.  
  55.  8.  Click the type of book installation you prefer, then click OK.  The Setup Complete window
  56.  opens. 
  57.  9.  Click Finish. You will be prompted to restart your computer.
  58.     Note: To finalize installation, you must restart your computer. 
  59. 10.  Click the product icon on your desktop to open your Versabook. 
  60.

  62.                          TROUBLESHOOTING
  63. ======================================================================

  65. BROWSER 
  66.  
  67. If the product icon does not appear on your desktop, or if an error occurs while the program is running
  68. (for e.g. media item not displaying properly in Internet Explorer), you may have to reinstall your browser.
  69. To do this, just follow the Browser Reinstallation instructions.
  70.  
  71. ========================
  72. IE BROWSER REINSTALLATION: 
  73.  
  74. If you have Win95A or Win95 OSR2, and your Internet Explorer Browser is older than version IE 4.0 
  75. Service Pack 1, you should install the IE5 version. You can upgrade your browser from your CD or
  76.  DVD-ROM
  77.  
  78. If you are using an English version of Windows, to install IE5:
  79. 1.  From your CD or DVD-ROM go to the IE5 directory (IE/0009) and run ie5setup.exe. (This will 
  80. install the newer version of IE 5.0.).
  81.  
  82. If you are using a non-English version of Windows, to install IE5:
  83. 1.  Download IE5 from the Microsoft download site (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie) in the
  84. language of your choice and install it onto your computer.
  85.  
  86. With the newer IE5.0 version, you can purchase and download books from our online Versabook
  87. eBookstore and access many special offers and features.
  88.  
  89. =============================
  90. IE5 BROWSER COMPLICATIONS
  91.  
  92. If you experience media problems or your product crashes when opening articles, it is mostly likely
  93. due to an earlier version of Microsoft browser IE5.0.  If you have an earlier version of IE5 than 
  94. IE 5.00.2314.1003, you should: 
  95. 1.  Uninstall your old Internet Explorer. 
  96. 2.  Reboot your computer.
  97. 3.  Follow the instructions in the above section (IE Browser Reinstallation) for either an English 
  98. or a non-English version of Windows.
  99.  
  100. If the problem continues, please contact our technical support.

  104. SOUNDS
  105.  
  106. If you experience sound problems, you should download and install the most up to date audio
  107. drivers for your sound card. Most sound card manufacturers provide support for this from their 
  108. websites.
  109.  
  110. =============================
  111. PRINTING AND EXPORTING COMPLICATIONS
  112.  
  113. If you are unable to export to DOC format and receive one of the following error messages:
  114.     "The macros in this project are disabled."
  115.     "Command failed."
  116.     "Unable to execute command."
  117. The default macro setting in Word 2000 is set too high.
  118. To change the macro setting:
  119. 1.  Open Microsoft Word.
  120. 2.  From the Tools menu, choose Macro and then Security.
  121. 3.  Set the Security level to medium and click OK.
  122.  
  123. NOTE:  You may need to manually end an instance of WinWord.  
  124. 1.  Save all documents.
  125. 2.  Press Ctrl + Atl + Delete.
  126. 3.  End all WinWord processes that appear.
  127.  
  128.  
  129. Versabook supports Version 97 and Version 2000 of Microsoft Word.
  130.  
  131.  
  132. If you are not satisfied with printing using Microsoft Word, use IE Explorer for printing.
  133. To print using IE Explorer:
  134. 1. From the View menu, choose Options.
  135. 2. Select the Display & Print tab.
  136. 3. Mark the Print using Internet Explorer check box.
  137. 4. Click OK.
  138.

  141. ERROR MESSAGE:
  142.  
  143. If you receive the following error message:
  144.  
  145. "Versabook could not find the file..." 
  146.  
  147. followed by the Versabook product closing, a file may have been erased from your hard-drive or your
  148. CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive may need cleaning.
  149.  
  150. To correct this, first try to clean your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM or your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  151.  
  152.  
  153. If the error message persists, uninstall and reinstall your product. 
  154.  
  155. To uninstall:
  156.  
  157. 1. Click the Windows Start menu.
  158. 2. Choose Settings and then click Control Panel.
  159. 3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. 
  160. 4. Click the appropriate product entry from the list of program titles. 
  161. 5. Click Add/Remove. 
  162. 6. Answer "Yes" to all prompts.
  163. 7. Reboot your computer.
  164.  
  165. When you have successfully uninstalled, place the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM in the CD-ROM or
  166. DVD-ROM tray and reinstall. 
  167.  
  168. ========================
  169. ERROR MESSAGE:
  170.  
  171. If you receive the following error message:
  172.  
  173. "The ordinal 6605 could not be located in the dynamic link library MFC42.DLL"
  174.  
  175. You should do the following:
  176. 1.  Reboot the machine. 
  177. 2.  If this does not work, you will need to reinstall the product.
  178. 3.  If you experience further problems with the same error message, you may have two copies of
  179. the file MFC42.dll installed on your computer. 
  180.  
  181. Normally this file exists in the Windows System directory: C:\windows\system32\mfc42.dll. 
  182. The second copy of the file is unnecessary and should be renamed. 
  183. It can be found in: 
  184. C:\windows\MFC42.DLL and should be renamed as follows: 
  185. MFC42_.DLL
  186.  
  187. Note: 
  188. The path of the Windows system directory may be different for each operating system: 
  189. Operating System    Path Name
  190. Windows 95    C:\windows\system32\mfc42.dll or C:\win95\system32\mfc42.dll
